Ecotop Next Generation: Energy-efficient redesign of the most economical ROHDE toploaders

Quality, efficiency and performance in series: The Ecotop models stand for this like no other. With the complete redesign and further development of the popular toploader, ROHDE is taking the next step towards energy efficiency and sustainability. Right in tune with the times and motivated by the trend of many users who want a better CO2 footprint and to contribute to the more careful use of energy resources, the next-generation Ecotops come with the best economy and ecology.

The first Ecotop models were already among the most economical on the market. The concept of lightweight firebricks and back insulation was a winner for applications in the high-temperature range and gave users extremely economical and efficient fires with low connected loads. With a completely revised thermal insulation system, the insulation performance has now been significantly improved. Higher-quality materials ensure less heat is released into the environment; the heat is retained mainly in the firing chamber, and end temperatures are reached more quickly. The reduced heat loss and the improved heating rates ensure that higher application temperatures are possible than with the previous models, and at the same time, less energy is consumed. The Ecotop is “eco” from both an economic and ecological perspective.

There are efficiency-driven visual changes and improvements, too. For example, the design of the next generation has become rounder thanks to a new arrangement of lightweight firebricks, which increases the usable volume of the kiln and ultimately saves firing costs per piece of fired ceramic. In addition, a brushed stainless steel kiln casing ensures the surface remains clean, and handprints do not immediately appear.

What is also interesting about the new Ecotops for ceramists is the change to the heating elements. The design was recalculated, and a higher-quality material was used. As a result, they last longer, need to be replaced less often, and the overall need for spare parts is reduced—another cost-saving and important milestone towards sustainability.

The next generation of Ecotops has been available since April 1st, 2023 and completely replaces the previous models. Proven features such as the practical reversible kiln stand, the gas-pressure-spring-supported lid opening and the power control via semiconductor switches have also been adopted in the new generation. Due to the unique, new thermal insulation system and the low connected loads achieved in many models with a simple “Schuko” connector, the new Ecotop generation offers an extensive range of applications and versatile benefits. Glaze firing in the higher-temperature range is possible in a kiln that remains affordable, does not require major conversion work on the building’s electrical system and, above all, is inexpensive to operate due to its low energy consumption.
