Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel inaugurates new kilns

After a 10-year planning and construction phase, the 2m3-volume ROHDE truck kiln using blast burners was inaugurated on 8 November 2016. The university’s modern ceramic workshop is now complete.

Professor Kerstin Abraham, head of the University and Michael Schöning, head of the ceramic workshop, invited all planners and construction partners as well as students and colleagues to join the ceremony. The students organised the celebration and accompanied the guests throughout the evening. Michael Schöning expressed his thanks to every one involved in the construction and gave a brief report of the building phase.

Professor Kerstin Abraham provided an interesting and excellent insight into educational life in Kiel describing the project’s first planning steps, theoretical approaches and the requirements imposed on this novel workshop. The four kilns were officially put into operation during a short ceremony: a 1.6m3-volume truck kiln, a 480-litre ELS 480 S Frontloader and a truck kiln HWG 2000 G using blast burners.

Guests and visitors had an opportunity for interesting conversations during the rest of the evening. A successful conclusion of this extensive and interesting project.

We would like to thank Professor Kerstin Abraham, Michael Schöning and the ceramics class in Kiel. Enjoy working with your new kiln, we wish you excellent firing results!
