Midsummer Pottery Market in Bad Berneck

Finally, we can visit pottery markets again! Our first trip this year was to Bad Berneck in Upper Franconia. Here the midsummer pottery market took place in the very well-kept spa gardens. The sun shone from the sky, and both visitors and exhibitors were happy that the weather gods had smiled on the market. And what a blaze of colour was offered – or did it only seem so to us because the season’s opening was so late this year?

We saw happy faces everywhere, people who talked animatedly, taking into account the specified hygiene regulations, and who also bought diligently, to the delight of the ceramists.

We took the opportunity to talk to some ROHDE kiln owners. We met Mr Hubert Eller from “Keramik Eller”, who has valued and cared for his gas kiln for 27 years and produces the most amazing works – for example, the wall decoration reminiscent of type cases, in which the extraordinary figures are movable!
We also met the couple Gerti and Ralf Dostmann, both ceramists. Mr Dostmann has been firing his filigree jewellery beads in all shapes and colours in a ROHDE top loader for 30 years, and Mrs Dostmann’s beautiful kitchenware will be created in one of our rectangular toploaders in the future.

We were also very enthusiastic about the booth of Ms Sophia Weiss. Unusual shapes for tableware pieces and jewellery made of porcelain drew our attention. The radiant white of the material and the graceful shapes and decorations gave an idea of the attention to detail when it was created. And to our delight, everything is fired in a ROHDE toploader.
Franziska Schnauder-Sanke was also happy to see us. It goes without saying that her local traditional pottery puts on a show in Bad Berneck. In the summery setting, her colourfully designed ceramics come into their own – after all, little bees and flowers always work.

Thank you to all exhibitors for the friendly conversations and permission to take photos. We wish all ceramists and potters a successful season, always good weather and great encounters with customers and enthusiasts!
