2021 Diessen Pottery Market Cancelled

The 2021 Diessen Pottery Market has been cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic situation.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to cancel the popular and well-known pottery market, which is of such great importance for our market community, for the second year running. The current pandemic situation, unfortunately, does not allow us to make a really reliable prediction and have any certainty to hold the event, despite the currently low infection rates,” explains Mayor Sandra Perzul and adds, “For the planning certainty of the exhibitors, all participating associations and the local accommodation industry as well as due to the uncertain framework conditions for holding the event, a further delay of the decision is no longer possible. We, therefore, hope and are positive that the pottery market can take place again next year after a two-year break.”

Market Manager Wolfgang Lösche also very much regrets the cancellation. At the moment, a market of this size cannot be planned due to the level of uncertainty.

The ceramics festival has always been held on Ascension Day with around 150 exhibiting workshops and attracts between 50,000 and 60,000 visitors every year to the lakeside facilities on Lake Ammer.

Thus, the now overdue 20th anniversary of the Diessen Ceramics Prize, which was launched by ROHDE, has to be postponed again. The Diessen Ceramics Prize has been awarded 19 times and traditionally decided by an independent jury of experts in the days before the market. For the 2020 anniversary, an exhibition in the “Blue House” and an accompanying magazine had been planned to honour the past winners. After the latest cancellation, the anniversary will now also be postponed to the next market

We very much hope that the Diessen Pottery Market and the 20th Ceramics Prize will take place as usual next year and are already looking forward to it!
